HOW TO DEVELOP A MARKETING STRATEGY OVER A COFFEE

How many of us Melbourbians love a coffee. For me I love it because it's a moment I get to sit down and take a breath and reflect on the day ahead. It's a special time that we give ourselves to stop and reflect and can be used to help us strategically plan our business marketing direction too.

Next time you are using a coffee as an excuse to reflect on your marketing and branding ask yourself these questions;

1/ What are we trying to get our marketing to do? ie. Build awareness, acquire new customers, or retain exiting customers.

2/ What are we currently promising our customers?

3/ What is the reason (fact) that they can believe that we deliver this promise to them?

4/ How are you currently communicating your promise to your customer or target audience? ie. Advertisement via facebook, Message on letterhead, Message on website.

5/ What are the marketing touch points (business cards, website, brochure, signage etc) of your business do you not have this message on?

Your promise and how you deliver this is your Marketing Positioning Statement. This sets you apart from your competitors. It is important that your Marketing Strategy is spearheaded with this message and that you don’t take for granted that your customer knows what you deliver.  Customers are so busy today and bombarded with countless messages so to expect them to know what you do is an unrealistic request, unless you are constantly communicating it to them every time they interact with your organisation.

So next time you have a coffee, sit down with these questions and scribble the answers on a napkin and you will have a basic marketing strategy to give you clarity and keep you targeted.
